Dead Man Walking (1995)

Suggested By Olivia Holmes

Powerful........30 minutes in and you know there is not going to be a happy ending. Based on the experiences of Sister Helen Prejean. Regardless of your view on Susan Sarandon, this is a fantastic movie. I am not afraid to admit that I was having to hold back some tears. Now, these were confusing tears. Representative of the spectrum of emotions and thoughts that these characters would have gone through.
What grabbed my attention most was the portrayal of the convict. No matter how you feel about his crime, and whether he was innocent or guilty, there remained the fact that he was once an innocent, with the personality of an innocent, and not the spawn of the devil nor victim to a brutal upbringing. So you can imagine how much of an emotional battle it would be for the convict himself as well as those supporting him.
It's a thought provoking movie and one that has fascinated me. If nothing else it is a clear example of an area of grey, and taking a side is not always as obvious as you might think.
