The Secret World of Arrietty (2010)

Suggested By Gary Walker and (indirectly) Zoe Connors

Like a dream........30 minutes in and I have been unaware of anything else around the entire time. As if Hayao Miyazaki's animations weren't magical enough, he had to go and write a version of my all time favourite, Mary Norton''s, 'The Borrowers'. The productions of Studio Ghibli never ceases to amaze me.The details are fantastic. Although I much prefer the characterisation of Plod in the BBC's TV series production (as well as the actor himself), the hysteria of Homily is well portrayed and thankfully, Arrietty is in no way as annoying as her previous representatives. Again, I am a fan of subtitles; not sure why to be honest, it just feels more magical, however there is a dubbed version out there somewhere in UK and US English. I just haven't found it yet.
If like me, you always love the idea of being small in a gargantuan world and you are able to acknowledge that animation is for adults too, this is just a delight to watch (I honestly don't care how old that phrase makes me sound, it's true). Plus, the whole 'human bean' thing never gets old.
This is my new favourite.

Watch it! No really, this is a command: http://www.veoh.com/watch/v29068517fZKhyt5q
